Hit 500 bricks in an hour for the first time yesterday

I've been laying brick for eight years and always thought that pace was just for show. My usual speed is around 350 an hour on a good day. Yesterday on a straight run of a garage in Dayton, everything just clicked and I hit 500. It wasn't about rushing, the mix was perfect and my setup was right. Honestly, it made me question if I've been too slow this whole time. Has anyone else hit a number that made you rethink your whole method?

Been there with the self doubt after a big number. That 500 pace might be your new normal for that specific setup, but it's not a fair judge of your whole career. A straight garage run in Dayton is a perfect storm of good conditions. Try hitting that on a tricky corner in the rain with a bad batch of mortar. The real skill is keeping a good average across all the bad days, not just the perfect ones.

Yeah, "good average across the bad days"... that's the real truth right there. The perfect days make you feel like a hero, but the grind is what pays the bills.
