Is a $220 mortar mixer worth it or should I keep hand mixing? Trying to settle this
So I picked up a small barrel mixer for around $220 last month before a backyard fireplace job in Akron, and I'm honestly torn. One side says it saved my back and my wrists, I could mix a full batch while laying, and the mortar came out more even than anything I ever did in a wheelbarrow. Other side says it ate 20 minutes setting up and cleaning every day, and for small jobs it was faster to just grab the hoe and a board.
We're talking maybe 60 bags over the job. I keep going back and forth on whether it earned its keep or if I just wanted a new toy. Curious what the line is for the rest of you. Do you pull the mixer out at a certain bag count, or is it hand mix all day for patch work?
