Noticed the same thing with extension cords when I'm setting up shop lights. That extra length always finds something to catch on. Makes you appreciate simple tools you can just grab and use.

Ever just add 20 minutes to whatever they tell you? I started doing that as my own personal buffer and it cut my waiting around by a lot. It turned their floating time into my fixed plan. After a while they just got used to me being the one who showed up exactly when expected.

Did you check your oven's actual temperature when it happened? @kevinross is right about the heat, but if your oven runs even a little hot on top of using rapid-rise, it would explain the violent rise and total collapse. That yeast basically had a sugar feast and then died all at once.

Actually, I kinda love that clean slate feeling after a return.
