Cheap beans still need a soak, no shortcuts

I keep seeing posts about dumping dry pintos straight into the Instant Pot. Did that twice last month. Bottom turned to paste, tops stayed crunchy. For a 2 pound bag at $1.89 you still gotta soak overnight or do the quick soak. Anyone else have a fail with no-soak dried beans? What's your go-to method that works on a tight schedule?
