My brother-in-law showed me his grocery receipt for a big bag of rice, beans, and frozen veggies. I used to think that kind of eating was just sad and cheap. Watching him pack his lunches for the week changed my mind. It's not about being broke, it's about being smart with your money and time. He puts the cash he saves straight into his kid's college fund. That's a trade-off I finally get.

How do you even do that?

I tried that whole rice and beans thing once and ended up with enough dry beans to feed a small army for a YEAR. Forgot to soak them and basically created an edible rock collection. My wife still brings up the "lentil incident" where I somehow cooked them into a paste that looked like something from a horror movie. But hey, I did save 40 bucks that week. Put it straight into the garbage can after I ordered pizza for the third night in a row. Real efficient system I got going.
