I finally got my bean soup right after my neighbor gave me a tip

I was outside my apartment building last week, and my neighbor saw me with a bag of dried beans. She said, 'Add a pinch of baking soda to the soaking water, it cuts the cooking time in half.' I tried it and it worked perfectly, saving me a ton on gas. Has anyone else got a little trick like that for cheap ingredients?

My buddy swears by adding a splash of vinegar to his rice while it cooks, says it makes it way fluffier.

Vinegar in rice sounds like a recipe for disaster. That's gonna make the whole pot taste sour and weird. Your buddy must have some strange taste buds.

Wow, I totally thought the same thing at first. Tried it with just a tiny bit of white vinegar though. Seriously, you can't taste it at all. It somehow stops the rice from getting gummy. Makes each grain separate. Changed my whole rice game.
