That $12 spice grinder turned out to be a money pit

Everyone raves about grinding your own spices for flavor, but my cheap grinder from a big box store lasted exactly 4 months before the motor gave out. I bought it to make curry powder at home instead of paying $6 for a tiny jar at the grocery. Now I'm back to buying pre-ground stuff, and honestly the taste difference is not worth the hassle. I tried fixing it with a YouTube video, but the gears were stripped and parts cost more than a new one. For my budget, a mortar and pestle would've been smarter, but my wrist can't handle that after long shifts. Has anyone else found a grinder under $25 that actually survives daily use?

Motor gave out" is such a classic case of buy cheap, buy twice. It's like the same pattern with toasters or hand mixers, the ones that cost less than a dinner out are basically designed to die right after the warranty ends. I fell for it with a $15 blender that sounded like a lawnmower and then just quit mid-smoothie. If you're using it daily, that's the real test, and most cheap stuff is made for occasional use, not every single day. Honestly, at this point I'd rather spend $40 once every few years than $12 every four months, the math just works out better.
