The $9 blender I bought as a joke is now my best friend

I used to think cheap blenders were trash, especially after my $60 one died in 8 months. Last month I grabbed a tiny personal blender at the dollar store for $9 just to see if it could handle ice. Turns out it crushes frozen fruit better than my old full size one ever did. Ive been making smoothies for breakfast every day now, which sounds dumb but its way cheaper than the $7 ones I was buying at the Smoothie Spot on 12th. The motor is weak if you overload it, but if you do small batches it works perfect. My only gripe is the lid leaks a little if you dont twist it right. Anyone else had luck with super cheap kitchen gadgets that surprised you?

Stopped rolling my eyes at those cheap gadgets after this. I had a $5 garlic press that fell apart in a week, so I figured it was all junk. But the little chopper I got at the grocery store for $8 has been going strong for two years now, and it handles stuff my expensive one choked on. Maybe it's just luck with these things, but it's made me way less snobby about price tags.
