I finally tried that hostel kitchen hack in Prague and it backfired hard

I spent 3 days shopping at local markets in Prague to save on eating out and stocked a full fridge at the hostel, but the staff threw everything out on my second morning because I didn't label it right. I lost about $40 in food and learned they have super strict rules about storage times. Has anyone else had hostel kitchens ruin their meal prep plans?

Ugh that sucks so bad. $40 is a lot to just lose like that.

I feel like the real hack here isn't sneaking food into hostel fridges, it's finding hostels that actually have a community kitchen culture instead of a strict hotel vibe. I've stayed at places in Berlin and Budapest where they had labeled shelves per bed and a whiteboard for rules, and they'd give you a warning before tossing stuff. But other spots treat the kitchen like a liability and will chuck anything that's not logged into some app. Did you check the hostel's rules online before you booked, or was it a surprise when you got there? That made me start reading kitchen policies in reviews before I pick a place now.
