I finally tried the $0.50 bus ticket hack in Mexico City and it saved me $40
I was in Mexico City last week and my hotel front desk guy told me the $40 airport shuttle was a rip off, so I tried the local bus for 10 pesos (about 50 cents) instead. The catch was I had to walk 6 blocks with my suitcase to the stop and figure out the card machine, which took me two tries because it only takes coins. I got to the airport in 45 minutes, same as the shuttle would have, and I had the whole bus to myself for most of it. Lesson learned: ask the locals at your hotel what they actually do, not what they sell you at the desk. Has anyone else done the bus thing in a city where the shuttle seemed like the only option?
