Pro tip: That convo with a flight attendant changed how I pack
Was on a red-eye to Chicago last week and got talking to a flight attendant about how she travels. She told me she never checks a bag even on 2 week trips because she uses packing cubes and rolls everything. Said the key is to pick a color scheme so all tops match all bottoms. It hit different because she does this for a living and saves like $60 a trip on bag fees. Has anyone else gotten solid travel advice from people who work in the industry?

Rolling everything and sticking to a color scheme works until you spill coffee on your one pair of pants two days in - then you're wearing the same stained chinos for a week. The whole "never check a bag" thing is more about her getting perks as crew than advice that applies to normal people paying for overhead bin space. Packing cubes are great and all but you don't need a flight attendant to tell you how to fold clothes.

Wait, didn't she say she's been a flight attendant for like 15 years? Pretty sure most airlines don't let crew cut the line for overhead space unless they're working that flight. She's probably just good at packing light because she's done it a million times, not because she gets some secret perk. Stained chinos thing is fair though, that's why I always pack a backup pair in my carry-on even if it's just jeans.
