Bought a $60 magnetic knife holder for my station and it stopped my blades from hitting the stainless steel table

Installed it last Thursday and the edge on my breaking knife has stayed sharp way longer since the blade isn't banging against metal every time I set it down, anyone else switch to magnets or stick with the old drop-in drawer?

Swapped my home kitchen over to a magnetic strip about two years back and honestly never looked back. The difference in blade life is night and day when knives aren't clanking around in a drawer or hitting a metal counter. Just make sure the magnet is strong enough to hold heavier chef's knives or you'll come in to find one on the floor, learned that one the hard way. Also easy to wipe down the strip compared to digging through a knife block.

And yeah the learning curve on the magnet strength is real, I had a heavy cleaver take a dive onto my foot at like 2am once, woke up the whole house swearing like a sailor. The worst part is you feel so dumb because it's not like the strip suddenly got weaker, you just forgot physics still applies at midnight when you're half asleep. But honestly the trade off is worth it, I can actually fit other stuff in my drawer now and my garlic press doesn't have to share space with a paring knife. Plus I feel fancy every time I grab a knife off the wall like I'm on a cooking show, even if I'm just making a sandwich.
