The $70 band saw blade that snapped on a Tuesday

Had a 1 inch blade give out mid-cut on a pork shoulder at the shop last month. The weld just let go, no warning. Thing sounded like a gunshot and scared half the market crowd outside. I checked the tension that morning, it was fine. Got the replacement for $32 from a local supplier instead of the fancy brand, and honestly it's cutting cleaner. Anyone else had a blade fail with no obvious sign before?

Three years back I swore by the expensive blades, figured you get what you pay for. Then a 1/2 inch one snapped on me during a straight cut in some wet oak, no stress at all, and I was stuck with a half ruined board. Switched to a mid range brand after that and haven't looked back, the weld holds way better in my experience. Your story about the pork shoulder makes total sense to me now, tension can be perfect and it still just lets go sometimes. The cheap ones arent always worse, sometimes they're just made with more care.
