My old way of reading reviews was a mess

I used to just look at the star rating and maybe the first two reviews. Last month, I bought a new kitchen faucet that way and it leaked right away. Now I sort by 'most recent' and read at least ten, looking for people who mention using it for over six months. I also check the one-star reviews first to see the worst case. Has anyone else found a better way to filter out fake reviews?

Checking the one-star reviews first is smart. I read an article that said fake reviews tend to be either all five stars or all one stars, but they're usually short and vague. Real bad reviews often have more details about what exactly broke or went wrong. I also look for reviews with photos or videos now, especially if they show the product after a few months of use. It takes more time but it's saved me from buying some real junk.

But what if the bad reviews with details are just from picky people who had one weird problem?

You ever read a one star review so detailed it sounds like the person's whole life fell apart because of a coffee maker? I once spent twenty minutes reading a guy's epic saga about a phone charger that "betrayed him." Felt like I was reading a novel.
