Spent $180 on a mattress topper and my back is still voting no

My chiropractor in Dayton told me to spend the money on a decent topper instead of a new bed, but after 3 weeks my lower back still hurts every morning, so now I'm stuck wondering if I got a bad one or if the whole topper thing is just a scam to avoid buying a real mattress.
