The week my router burned out mid-kitchen and I had to hand cut 14 dovetails
So last Tuesday I'm 3 drawers from finishing a white oak kitchen up in Bozeman, and my old router just dies. No warning, just smoke and that awful smell. The shop owner wanted the job done Friday. I had no backup and no time to order one, so I dug out my grandpa's old dovetail saw and chisels and did all 14 drawers by hand over two nights.
Honestly some of them came out better than what the router was doing. Cleaner baseline, tighter fit. My forearms are still sore though.
Has this happened to anyone else, a tool dying at the worst possible time? And did you end up liking the hand tool result more than you expected? Because now I'm confused about whether I even want to buy another router.
