Just realized I burned $180 on a toner probe I barely touch

Bought one of those fancy tone generators my second month on the job because a guy at the counter in Houston swore I needed it. Turns out 9 out of 10 jobs I just use my cheap $20 line tester and my eyes. What tool did you buy early on that ended up sitting in the van?
