Took me 4 hours to find one bad barrel connector on a 12 unit MDU job in Phoenix
So here's the thing that still gets me fired up. Two weeks back I was at a 12 unit place over in Phoenix, and the whole job should have been a clean 6 hour day, 12 drops, new amp, easy. Instead I burned 4 hours chasing a signal problem that turned out to be one barrel connector behind a wall plate in unit 7, corroded green on the inside from a leak the tenant never mentioned. Now here's the split. Half the techs I know say that's just the trade, you eat the hours and keep your mouth shut because the customer pays for the finished job, not your clock. The other half say if a tenant or the last guy left a problem like that, you write it on the ticket, charge the diagnostic, and let the office sort it out. I've done it both ways and I still don't know which one keeps me working steady. What do you all do when a 20 minute fix eats half your day, just eat it or bill it?
