Bought a used lens cleaning kit for $15 and it paid for itself in one job

Tbh I was pretty skeptical about dropping money on a used ultrasonic cleaner I found at a garage sale. But I had a nasty haze on a vintage 50mm f1.4 that was driving me crazy. Gave it a go with some basic fluid and it came out spotless after two cycles. Definitely saved me from sending it out for a $60 professional cleaning. Has anyone else had luck with those cheap secondhand cleaning gadgets?

Wait until you drop a tiny screw or spring in there and it rattles around getting blasted by ultrasonic waves until it breaks something. Those cheap units can also leave residue on coatings if you don't use the right solution, which is hard to know from a garage sale find. You probably got lucky this time but I wouldn't trust that thing with anything expensive.

Most folks run junk through those things without a problem.
