Finally caved and cleaned a lens with lighter fluid, wild how it worked

I've always been anti any solvent that didn't come in a fancy bottle, but last week a vintage 50mm got a stubborn haze that my usual stuff couldn't touch. A retired guy on another board swore by Zippo fluid so I tried it on a junker first, then the real lens. Took two passes and a ton of microfiber wipes but the haze is gone, no residue left at all. Anyone else use weird DIY fixes that actually beat the proper chemicals?

Rubbing alcohol on fungus, swear by it.
