Watching my friend's first Python script fail because of one missing colon

My buddy just started learning to code and sent me his first real script, a simple calculator. It kept throwing an 'invalid syntax' error and he was stuck for over an hour. I looked at it and the 'if' statement on line 7 was missing the colon at the end. It's such a tiny thing, but it breaks everything. I see this all the time with people just starting out, they focus on the big ideas and miss the punctuation. How do you even learn to spot those little details without going crazy first?

That day in February when the wind just wouldn't quit

We were setting precast panels for a new warehouse outside of Omaha, and the forecast called for 15 mph gusts, which was right at our limit. By 10 AM, it was a steady 20 with stronger bursts. My signal person, who's been at this for 20 years, looked at me and just shook his head. We had to shut down for over three hours, which put the whole pour schedule behind. The worst part was watching the load just hang there, dancing, before we could finally set it down safe when a small break came. It eats at you, knowing the clock is running but you can't do a thing. What's your go-to move on a site when you're grounded by weather but the foreman is breathing down your neck?

A woman at the Portland farmers market stopped me to ask about my jacket

I was wearing a sample piece I made from some old canvas and a thrifted wool lining. She said, 'I love how the collar stands up on its own, it looks like it has a story.' We talked for maybe ten minutes about how I'd used a mix of machine and hand stitching on the seams. It was the first time someone really looked at the details of my work, not just the whole thing. That small comment made me feel like I was on the right track with my design choices. Has anyone else had a random moment like that give them a boost?

I used to think minimalist logos were boring until a client meeting in a Portland coffee shop

I was showing a client some logo ideas for his new bike shop, and I had this one super simple design, just two lines that looked like a bike frame. I thought it was too plain, so I was about to skip it. But he pointed right at it and said, 'That's the one. It's clean, I can see it on a patch or a sign, and it makes me think of riding, not just looking at a picture of a bike.' We were at that place on Alberta Street, the one with the big windows. Him saying that stuck with me because I was so focused on making things 'interesting' with more details, but he wanted something that would work anywhere, even super small. It totally changed how I start my logo sketches now. Has anyone else had a client point out the obvious thing you were overthinking?

I was putting the coffee maker in the wrong spot for years...

My sister came to visit and pointed out that having the machine right next to the sink was making the grounds damp from the steam. I moved it to the counter by the window, and my morning coffee actually tastes better now. Has anyone else had a simple setup change make a big difference in their guest space?
