Hit job number 500 last month and honestly it snuck up on me
I was logging a Nikon FM2 shutter job in my notebook last month when I realized the line I was writing was number 500 since I started keeping track back in 2019. What got me is I still feel like a beginner most days, especially when a tricky leaf shutter or a frozen focus helical lands on the bench. That 500 number made me stop and look back at how much I used to guess at things, like the time I wrecked a customer's Pentax spotmatic mirror box because I forced a screw I should have heated first. Now I keep a little heat gun and a set of JIS drivers within arm's reach and those two things alone probably saved me a hundred jobs since. The weird part is the milestone did not feel like a big deal in the moment, it just felt like another Tuesday with dust on my fingers and a lens spanner in my hand. I do wonder how other folks here track their work, do you count jobs, hours, or just go by feel? Curious if anyone else hit a round number and had it mess with their head a bit.
