I finally threw out that $150 ultrasonic cleaner I bought in 2015 thinking it would save me hours on shutter assemblies.

The thing just couldn't handle the proper solutions without corroding, and I ended up going back to my old manual method after wasting a whole weekend and a bottle of naphtha trying to make it work... has anyone found a small tank model that actually holds up?

My 2019 Vevor 2L digital model corroded through the tank bottom in under a year using simple green. It was the sealed transducer type too. I've gone through three different cheap units, and every single one failed with any solvent stronger than water and dish soap. For small, greasy parts like shutter blades, I found the manual pre-clean with a brush matters way more than the ultrasonic cycle.

My 2017 Vevor 3L digital model has been a workhorse for clock parts. The stainless steel tank has held up to mineral spirits and simple green for years now. The key was finding one with a sealed transducer plate instead of the cheaper glued-on ones. It still needs a good manual scrub after, but it cuts the soak time down to almost nothing.
