TIL that cleaning a shutter curtain with too much force can bend the blades
I was working on a Nikon FM2n in my basement shop last Tuesday, trying to clean some oil off the shutter curtain blades. I used a Q-tip with a tiny bit of lighter fluid, but I pressed too hard on one of the blades and it bent slightly. The curtain still closed but it left a tiny gap in the corner. I had to order a whole new shutter assembly from a parts camera on eBay for $30 and wait three days to finish the repair. Has anyone else wrecked a blade like this or am I the only one who gets too aggressive with cleaning?
