My mortgage pre-approval took 11 weeks because of one old cell phone bill in Mississauga
So back in March I finally got serious about buying a place, and I went to a broker here in Mississauga to get pre-approved. I figured it would take a week, maybe two, since my credit score is 780 and I have steady work. But the bank kept coming back asking for more papers: two years of tax stuff, every account statement, a letter from my job, all of it. Then it got weird. They flagged a collections item for $147 from an old cell phone bill back in 2019 that I honestly forgot even existed. I called the phone company to sort it out, and they said it was already paid but their system never updated it with the credit bureau. Getting that fixed took almost a month on its own, phone call after phone call, being passed around to different people who each told me something different. By the time the pre-approval finally came through in late May, the place I wanted had sold and rates had gone up a bit too. Has anyone else had a collections thing from years ago wreck their timeline like this, and how did you get it removed?
