Showerthought: I tried a home energy check in Edmonton and my bill went up
I paid for a full home energy check last month, thinking it would show me how to save money on heating. The guy found a few small drafts, but his main advice was to add more attic insulation, which would cost over $3,000. My next bill was actually higher, maybe because of the extra tests they ran. Has anyone else done one of these checks and did it actually help?

Classic bait and switch. They sell you a cheap check to find the expensive problem. My neighbor got the same pitch for new windows after his audit.

Wow, that's wild they actually made your bill go up, what a scam. Williamt44 is right about the bait and switch, they always find the priciest fix. Spending three grand on insulation before you even see any savings is a huge ask, especially when their own check cost you more money.
