PSA: switched from a half helmet to a full face after 8 seasons and the group ride out to Bragg Creek felt totally different
Rode with a half helmet for 8 seasons because that was just what everyone in my dad's circle wore back in the day. Picked up a full face before a ride out to Bragg Creek near Calgary and the wind noise alone was cut down so much I could actually hear my buddy's Sena at highway speed for once. Rain on the Trans Canada last weekend didn't feel like getting hit with gravel either, which I never even thought about with the open lid. Only thing I miss is the wind in my face at stop lights, but not enough to switch back. Anyone else make the jump late like this, or am I the odd one out?
I read a thread on a moto forum where a guy tracked his decibel readings with a half lid vs full face and the jump was around 20 to 25 dB at highway speed. That lines up with what you're saying about the Sena, since wind noise is what drowns out comms way before engine noise does. Hearing damage from wind is one of those things nobody warns you about, and by the time you notice the ringing it's already done. Smart move making the switch, even this late.
