Serious question, has anyone else tried that 'pre-ride checklist' from the Ontario safety course?

I always thought it was just busywork, but after my chain snapped near Sudbury last month, I realized I'd skipped checking the master link. Anyone have a shorter version that actually works?

You ever just do the T-CLOCS check but only the parts for your bike? I skip the lights part on my dirt bike but ALWAYS check the chain and tires now.

Honestly, I get skipping lights on a dirt bike since you're not on the road. But what's your actual chain check routine? I look for tight spots and about a half inch of play in the middle.
