Spent 3 hours chasing a rattle on my Vulcan 900 that turned out to be a quarter in my saddlebag
So last Saturday I'm riding out near Kelowna on the back roads and I start hearing this rattle every time I hit a bump, and of course I pull over and start poking at everything. I checked the exhaust brackets, the license plate, the heat shields, even got down on my hands and knees looking for a loose bolt on the kickstand, and nothing. I rode home slow and annoyed, then spent another hour on the driveway with a flashlight before my neighbor walks over and asks why my saddlebag sounds like a piggy bank. Turns out a quarter had slipped out of my jacket pocket and was bouncing around in there the whole time, and I had spent about 3 hours hunting for a problem that cost me 25 cents. The worst part is I had already started googling engine noise videos on my phone at the side of the road. My neighbor still brings it up at the coffee shop. So what's the dumbest thing that ever fooled you into thinking your bike was falling apart?
Reminds me of the time I swore my front end was wobbling and it was just my water bottle rolling around in the tank bag the whole ride. Felt pretty smart when I finally figured that one out.
