Took 6 months to figure out my handlebar grip size, not 5 minutes

I rolled into a shop in Edmonton last fall with what I thought was a simple issue: my grips kept sliding off. The guy at the counter said it was user error, said to just crank the lock rings tighter. Tried that, then tried different grips, then tried grip glue, and nothing stuck for more than a few weeks. Turns out my bars are a weird 23.2mm diameter, not the standard 22.2mm, and nobody bothers to check that first. Cost me $80 in trial and error parts before a buddy with calipers pointed it out. Has anyone else fought a basic fit issue way longer than it should've taken because the obvious answer was sitting right there?

Man, that's brutal. Nobody checks the actual bar diameter, they just assume 22.2 and move on. I've been there with seatpost clamps, wasted a whole season on a slipping post that was a half millimeter off. A caliper is like $15, saves you from buying junk that won't fit. The shop guy should've caught that, not your buddy.
