My old tarp setup vs. the PVC pipe frame I built last fall

I used to just throw a tarp over my 87 Firebird and strap it down with bungees. Every winter in Cleveland, the snow would pool in the middle and freeze, and by spring the paint had water spots and the tarp was torn in three places. Last October I spent an afternoon building a simple frame out of 1 inch PVC pipes from Home Depot, about 60 bucks total with fittings. The tarp sits on a proper peak now, so rain and snow slide right off, and I added a couple of cinder blocks on the bottom edges to stop the wind from flipping it. The difference is night and day, especially after that 12 inch snowstorm in January, the car stayed completely dry and clean. I still have to check the vents every couple weeks so moisture doesn't build up inside, but it's way less hassle than before. Has anyone else tried a frame like this, or do you use a carport or indoor storage for your project cars?

Wait til that PVC gets brittle and cracks in a cold snap.
