Roof rack crossbars bent under a tarp load last Tuesday

I strapped a heavy tarp bundle to my factory crossbars in Austin and came back to find them bowed at the ends. I swapped to a cheap clamp-on cargo bag instead, takes 10 minutes now. Anyone else had crossbars fail with just fabric weight?

Heat does more damage to plastic crossbars than actual weight.
