Watching a guy at LAX fix his laptop with a paperclip changed how I travel

Heard a thing on the radio the other day about how people in the 80s fixed their own VCRs with paperclips and butter knives. Now we just toss it and buy a new one. Kinda makes you wonder what we lost along the way, right?

Old timer in St. Louis warned me against using a self-leveler on plywood subfloor... he was right

Primer was just a money grab" - that's what I used to think too. But I tried skipping it once on plywood and regretted it within a month. Now I don't even question it, just slap some on and move on.

Hot take: Thrift store puzzles vs. dollar store puzzles which is better?

Found a vintage Springbok at a thrift in Boulder for fifty cents once... all 1000 pieces were there. Dollar store puzzles feel flimsy and the image always looks kinda washed out to me. I'll take the gamble on thrifted ones every time since you can usually spot if the box has been taped shut.

Had a guy bring in a 97 Civic last Tuesday that smelled like a whole barbecue joint inside

Forget just the smell, that grease is basically seasoning the metal from the inside out, that floor pan's probably gonna rust out from the bottom in a year or two. A buddy of mine detailed a truck that a carpenter used to haul bags of concrete mix in, the dust got everywhere and mixed with sweat to form this weird paste that bonded to the upholstery like adhesive. Food gear is one thing but construction debris turns a car into a biohazard real quick, never mind what that grease does to your resale value.

Why does nobody talk about dialing in a grinder for cold brew?

Wait, only 12 hours with a fine grind? Dude that sounds like it'd come out super watery or just weirdly weak. I mean maybe it works for you but I've never heard of anyone doing that before.
