Overheard a recruiter say resumes over 2 pages get skimmed, not read
I was waiting for my truck to get unloaded at a warehouse in Gary, Indiana last week and grabbed coffee at this little diner next door. Two recruiters from a staffing agency were at the booth behind me talking about how they sort through applications for warehouse supervisors and logistics leads. One said she spends maybe 45 seconds on a resume unless something jumps out at her in the first half of page one. She specifically mentioned that any resume over 2 pages goes straight to the bottom of the stack unless the person has a referral. That got me thinking about my own resume, which I had at 3 pages because I listed every certification and old job from 2006. I trimmed it down to 1.5 pages, put my current role and measurable wins like cutting fuel costs 12% at the top, and added a one line summary of tools I actually use daily. My next application got me a call back within a week, which never happened before. Has anyone else had luck cutting their resume way down, or do you think recruiters are just saying that?
