The $18 coffee habit that was actually costing me $600 a year in raises

I ran the numbers after my last review and found out something that floored me. My boss gave me a 2% raise, which sounded fine until I calculated it. That came out to about $600 extra per year, before taxes. Meanwhile, I was spending $5 on a latte every single workday, which adds up to roughly $1,300 a year. So my so called raise was basically funding my own coffee habit and then some. I'm not saying skip the coffee, but it made me rethink how I negotiate for cost of living bumps. Anyone else ever run the math on a raise versus your daily spending, and it just made you feel dumb?
