I always thought marking studs with a chalk line was a waste of time until this job in Tacoma

We were putting up a long run of custom wainscoting, and my usual method of just marking each stud with a pencil was causing slight alignment issues over the 30-foot wall. My partner insisted we snap a single, level chalk line across all the studs at the exact height. It took an extra five minutes, but every panel went up perfectly straight and level on the first try. Has anyone else found a simple prep step that seemed like a hassle but ended up saving a ton of headache?

Ever try just using a laser level? I feel like that's even faster than a chalk line for stuff like that.

Depends on the job site for me. @jessew83, what kind of laser are you using? The cheaper ones can be hard to see in bright light, and then you're just messing with a tripod instead of snapping a line. I keep both in the truck because sometimes the laser is perfect and other times a chalk box is just less fuss.
