Serious question, I was cutting crown for years before a guy on site told me to flip the saw.

I was putting up crown molding in a house in Tacoma and kept having to shim every piece, which took forever. The foreman walked by and said, 'You know you can just flip the molding upside down and cut it flat on the saw bed, right?' That one tip changed how I do trim work. Do you think it's better to learn the math for cutting crown or just stick with the upside-down method?

Man, I feel your pain, that shimming sounds brutal.

I had to shim a door at my old apartment for two hours last year. It feels like so many basic tasks now require this weird, hidden skill set. You watch a five minute video and suddenly you're an expert in leveling or calibrating something. My dad says things just used to be built better, with less need for user fixes. I'm starting to believe him, because it's not just doors, it's everything from furniture to tech gadgets.
