Showerthought: That door jamb repair that should have been 30 minutes ate up my whole Saturday
I had to fix a rotted door jamb on a 90 year old house in Denver last weekend. Figured itd be a quick cut and replace, maybe an hour tops. Turns out the framing underneath was all twisted and out of square from decades of settling. Spent 4 hours shimming and planing just to get the door to close right. Has anyone else run into a simple job that turned into a full day project because of hidden framing issues?

My dad used to say every old house has a secret, and he was right. I watched a show where a guy ripped out a rotting jamb and found the entire wall frame was held up by nothing but old newspapers and hope. The whole thing had to come out and get rebuilt from scratch. Three day job for what should have been a morning. Sounds like you got lucky with just shims and a plane honestly.

Old newspapers and hope" sounds about right for these old places. @kaib18 guess I got off easy with just shims and a plane, huh?
