That old foreman's pencil trick finally clicked for me on a trim job

Back in 2019 I was doing crown molding in a house over in Maplewood and this old foreman, Bob, kept telling me to stop measuring twice and just use a scrap piece to mark my coped joints. I thought he was full of it, so I kept wasting time with my tape and angle finder until I botched a whole 12 foot run. Tried his way on the next cut, took me maybe a minute to scribe the profile and the fit was perfect. Anyone else got a habit they ignored from a veteran that ended up saving them hours once they tried it?

Ever tried dry fitting the cope before you even glue it, that trick alone saved my whole kitchen once?
