Double-sided tape on stairs is a disaster waiting to happen

Had a customer insist on carpet tape for their basement steps instead of proper tack strips. 3 days later they called me back because the edge peeled up and their kid tripped. Took me 2 hours to scrape all that sticky residue off before I could do it right. Anyone else dealt with homeowners fighting you on the hardware?

My buddy Mark (works at a hardware store in Columbus) told me about a guy who demanded gorilla glue for his porch steps instead of proper construction adhesive. Two weeks later the glue had bubbled up in the heat and his mailman almost ate it. Mark had to drive over with a heat gun and a scraper and spend 45 minutes chipping that stuff off before he could even start the real job. He said the homeowner stood there watching him like he was the crazy one. I swear people will fight you on the dumbest shortcuts.

Right, it's like some people just CANNOT accept that the right tool or product matters, they'd rather fight about it than spend the extra five bucks. It's the same genius who uses duct tape for wires and wonders why their house almost burns down.
