The time I used a garden hose to stretch a carpet in a pinch

Got stuck on a job in Phoenix with a broken power stretcher and tried to improvise with a 50-foot hose and a come-along. The result was a wavy mess that looked like the ocean, and the homeowner just stared and said 'is that... normal?' Anyone have a better emergency fix for a stretcher failure?
