Grocery store guy changed how I view day old bread

I used to ignore the discount bakery rack at my Kroger in Louisville until a stocker told me he grabs the day old loaves every Tuesday morning and freezes them for toast. He showed me how the $1.29 sourdough reheats perfect in a damp paper towel, and now I plan my weekly meals around that rack. Anyone else got a hidden cheap aisle tip from a store employee that stuck with you?

You ever freeze bread and forget it's in there until it's basically a hockey puck with crumbs? That's my usual move, but this guy's damp paper towel trick is gold. I tried it with a discounted ciabatta roll and it came out soft enough to trick me into thinking I actually baked something. My freezer's just a graveyard of good intentions, but now I'm the weirdo hoarding day old baguettes like they're winning lottery tickets.
