Appreciation post: the $1.79 rotisserie chicken from the Safeway on 4th that fed me three dinners
Last Tuesday was a mess. My paycheck got held up two days because of some payroll glitch, so I had $13 in my checking account and a fridge with half a jar of pickles in it. I walked to the Safeway on 4th, fully ready to just buy a sad box of pasta and accept my fate. But then I saw it in the little hot case by the deli: a whole rotisserie chicken marked down to $1.79 because it was close to closing time. I grabbed it, plus a bag of clearance carrots for 89 cents and a box of rice for a buck fifty. That night I ate the legs and some rice. Wednesday I shredded the rest over rice with the carrots and a sauce I made from mayo and hot sauce I already had. Thursday I boiled the bones with an onion and made a soup that honestly tasted better than the chicken did. Three real dinners for under $4 total, and I wasn't even trying. I keep thinking about how close I was to just eating plain noodles and being mad about it all week. Do the hot cases at your stores do markdowns on a set schedule, or is it totally random? I want to time it right next time.
