Showerthought: I froze my ground beef in a solid block for 2 years before I figured out the flat bag trick
I was cleaning out my chest freezer last Saturday and pulled out a 3 pound block of ground beef that had been in there since who knows when. I stood there with a butter knife trying to chip off a quarter pound and it hit me that I had been doing this same dumb thing since 2021. My mom always froze meat in those lumpy plastic bags and I just copied her without thinking. Then a buddy from work told me to flatten the meat into a thin layer in a ziplock, press the air out, and freeze it flat. It thaws in like 20 minutes under cold water and stacks way better too. I tried it with 5 pounds last week and my freezer looks like a filing cabinet now. How do you all store meat so it does not turn into a brick?
