Thought dried beans were a scam until my grocery bill hit $87 for one bag of food
Two months ago I grabbed a bag of dried pinto beans at the HEB in San Antonio for $1.89, mostly because I felt guilty about how much I was spending on canned ones. Soaked them overnight, threw them in the slow cooker with an onion and some cumin, and ended up with enough beans for six meals, which worked out to about 32 cents a serving. What is your go-to cheap protein that beats the price of beans, or am I already at the bottom of the barrel here?
