Just cleaned my 500th flue liner and the number hit me

I always thought this job was just about getting the job done, but hitting that mark made me realize how many homes I've actually kept safe. Found a massive hidden crack in a terra cotta liner on number 498 that could have been really bad. Anyone else have a milestone that made you stop and think?

Dude, that's awesome! I hit 300 inspections last year and it hit me the same way. Found a whole family of raccoons living in a chimney on number 297, place could have gone up like a tinderbox. Those numbers really do sneak up on you.

Yeah, the 300 mark is a trip. I hit 312 and my brain just sort of short-circuited trying to picture all those attics and crawl spaces. What got me through was keeping a simple log on my phone, just the address and one weird find. Looking back at "House on Elm, 18 pounds of acorns in the soffit" or "Maple Street, furnace held together with duct tape" made the whole thing feel real, not just a big scary number.

Disagree completely, keeping a log just makes you dwell on the weird stuff. The whole point is to move fast and not get stuck in your head about past jobs. Morganj81's raccoon story is exactly the kind of thing that slows you down. Just hit the number, get paid, and forget the address.
