Magnetic sweeping tools sounded like gimmick until my flue pipe fight in Albany

I used to think those magnetic sweep rods were just a way to sell us overpriced gadgets. Then last month I had a job in Albany where the flue took two sharp turns and regular rods kept binding up. I borrowed my buddy's magnetic kit out of desperation and got through the whole run without re-threading once. It saved me about 45 minutes on that single call, but I still wonder if they wear out faster than standard rods. Has anyone run one long enough to see if the magnets lose their pull?

Heard a guy at the supply house say his set is three years old and still grabs strong, but he also keeps them cased when not in use. Magnets do seem to hold up fine unless you drop them hard.
