I had to walk 2 miles to work when my car broke down... and it was kind of nice.

I read this article about how a short walk before work can actually help you focus better. It was talking about how even a 20 minute walk can sort of reset your brain before you have to start dealing with emails and stuff. Maybe that's why the broken down car walk felt good, it forced that buffer zone.

Guess your boss missed a real chance to sell you on the whole "wellness walk" thing. Bet they'd call it a team building exercise if they made you do it. Sounds like you found the secret commute hack, just need a car that breaks down on a nice day.

My old manager at the warehouse tried that mandatory walk thing once. It was just ten minutes around the parking lot in July. Everyone came back sweaty and annoyed, and we never did it again. The best team building is just leaving people alone.
