Unpopular opinion: letting paint cure for a week before buffing is overrated for production work

Wait, you're telling me someone actually had paint SHIFT after a full panel job? Thats insane. @brookethomas Ive been doing this for years and never seen that happen unless someone messed up the prep or cure time real bad. Like how do you even get paint to move on a vertical surface unless its still wet when you walk away? Thats a whole new level of bad luck or just pure carelessness.

TIL that the $15 earplugs I bought at the pharmacy actually help me sleep through the noise of my neighbor's dog barking all night

Wait but is anyone really gonna pretend like the fancy $100+ custom molded earplugs aren't worth every penny? I had the same exact problem with a neighbor's dog but I tried those cheap foam ones from Walgreens and they just fell out and gave me weird ear infections after a few nights. I finally caved and got some custom plugs from an audiologist and @lucas_grant83 I gotta disagree on this one. The expensive ones fit your ear canal exactly so they don't shift around when you roll over in bed. Plus they are way more comfortable for side sleeping since they're soft silicone not that scratchy foam that makes your ears feel like they're stuffed with sandpaper. Yeah the foam ones work okay for some people but I'd rather spend once and not have to push a dirty piece of foam back in at 3 AM.

Got a brutal critique on my lighting and it fixed my whole workflow

The light direction arrow thing is smart but you gotta be careful with it. People fixate on the arrow and then forget that light bounces and scatters. I did the same thing for months, drew a perfect arrow and then every shadow was this harsh blob on the opposite side of every shape. Real lighting has ambient occlusion and subsurface scattering and all that stuff that makes it look soft and natural. Ended up spending more time looking at how light wraps around curved surfaces like a water bottle on my desk than actually painting. The arrow is a good starting point but don't let it turn your work into a coloring book where light only comes from one direction.

Had a moment of clarity at the dollar store comparing scrub brushes

Nah man, that quarter is the difference between life and death for your hands.

Why does nobody talk about how Ethernet cables degrade in direct sunlight?

Three months is a pretty quick timeline for that kind of failure, even in Phoenix. I've seen cables last a year or two in similar spots before the jacket gets crumbly. @jake_dixon is right that UV is rough on PVC, but I've pulled apart plenty of those old cables where the jacket was shot and the copper underneath was still shiny. In my experience the data signals hold up way longer than you'd think. You start getting drops and errors well before the jacket looks bad, but it's usually from crappy terminations or a bad crimp, not the UV. I'd bet money that cable was still passing packets fine until the day a bird or a squirrel bit through the last bit of good insulation and shorted it out.
