I thought carbon offsets were total greenwashing, then I watched my neighbor's farm in Iowa actually change
Two years ago I would have bet money that every carbon offset program was just a way for companies to keep polluting while writing a check. My neighbor Dale signed up his 400 acres in Iowa with a soil carbon program back in 2022 and I honestly thought he got played. Then last spring he showed me the payout sheet, $4,200 for the year, plus his soil tests came back with higher organic matter than his dad ever recorded on that same ground. He changed his tilling, added cover crops, and the program actually paid him for it instead of just taking credit for doing nothing. Has anyone else seen a real offset deal work, or did I just get lucky with a neighbor who actually reads the fine print?
